The firm has already shown a concept of an SUV, called the CrossSport, and it is likely that will be the basis for its next major launch. Although the model will mainly be aimed at America, Fleet News understands that if research shows there is demand in the UK, the model will be sold here too.
In addition, the Mazda2 is likely to be replaced with a much wider range of models, including a mini-MPV and sports model, to build on its market share in a major segment of the UK car market.
This would equal demand for other models, as the Mazda6 and Mazda3 currently have 5% and 3% market share respectively, while the Mazda2 only has 0.6%. The Mazda2 is currently achieving 4,000 sales. Changing the range could add up to 20,000 sales, transforming Mazda’s sales plan.
Currently, steady demand of about 50,000 sales is planned, but success in the B-segment could mean more than 70,000 sales a year for the company.
