The UK produced 116,159 cars in October, a 7% decrease over the same period last year.

Production year-to-date was also down to 1,228,777, a drop of 9.1%.

“Although car production fell in October, increased industry investment did in fact result in increased volumes for some plants,” said Christopher Macgowan, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders chief executive.

“However, we should not be complacent because manufacturers are likely to have one eye firmly on low-cost production – a fact we expect to be confirmed when the fourth annual SMMT issues survey is published next week.”
