Autoglass has entered a consultation process with its staff following the loss of a major glass replacement and repair contract with Norwich Union.

The Belron-owned company declined to say how many jobs were at risk, but confirmed it was undergoing a company wide review.

Autoglass said: “2005 was a very challenging year for us. In order to maintain a market leading position we have consequently taken a careful look at our internal structure to ensure that resource levels are aligned to meet our future business requirements.”

Norwich Union now refers the majority of its repair and replacement jobs to its in-house glass services supplier RAC Auto Windscreens.

The Autoglass spokesman said the company has decided to make a number of changes within its head office and its main branches and a consultation process has commenced with the people that may be affected.

“We very much hope to redeploy as many people as we can to alternative positions,” he added.
