The Volkswagen Polo line-up has been extended with the addition of two new models: the Dune and the GTI.

Dune

The five-door Polo Dune features 4x4 styling, 17-inch alloy wheels; unique front and rear bumpers; side and wheel-arch protection; silver coloured roof rails; and suspension raised by 20 mm.

The Dune is available to order this month and goes on sale in the UK on April 14. It will cost £12,645 on-the-road for the 1.4-litre 73bhp petrol unit. A 1.4-litre TDI 68bhp diesel is also available, costing an extra £850 over the petrol version.

GTI

The Polo GTI model is also available to order this month but will go on sale in the UK on May 12. It is available in both three and five door guise and comes with a 1.8-litre 20 valve turbocharged engine. The engine develops 148bhp and accelerates from 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds. It reaches a top speed of 134 mph.

The Polo GTI takes its style cues from its ‘big brother’ Golf GTI and features a honeycomb front grille; twin chrome tail pipes; red brake callipers; 15 mm lower suspension; and 16-inch versions of the GTI alloy wheel. Prices for the Polo GTI start at £14,785 on the road for the three-door model.

Both the Dune and GTI feature: ABS (anti-lock braking system) with HBA (hydraulic brake assist); driver’s and front passenger’s airbags; and front side airbags, cimatic semi-automatic air conditioning, remote central locking with alarm, electric windows and mirrors and a radio/CD player. In addition the Polo GTI gains ESP (electronic stabilisation programme).
