Fiat’s Idea and Nissan’s Pathfinder have both achieved a four star rating for occupant protection in the latest results form the Euro NCAP safety tests.

The Fiat Idea has a head protecting curtain airbag, but it is not equipped as standard with an airbag to protect the body in a side impact accident. Euro NCAP said: “If the Idea had ISOFIX mounts for child seats also fitted as standard, it would have achieved a higher rating for child protection.”

Despite scoring well in the occupant tests, the Idea didn’t score so well for pedestrian protection, with one star. The Pathfinder did better with two stars for pedestrian safety.
