As part of an ongoing development programme to raise its credibility in the industry, Federal-Mogul’s 2006 training provision has been extended to include two-day courses in engine, braking and ignition.

The training days involve practical and classroom sessions to ensure technicians are kept up-to-date with the latest products and techniques.

Jerry Banks, Federal-Mogul friction brand manager, says that despite being a leader in the delivery of training to garages, the company’s research shows that all manufacturers need to address the issue of training support.

Banks says: “While it is costly, it is the type of activity that can engender long term brand loyalty and greatly increase a manufacturer’s credibility in the trade. It is for this reason we continue to develop new training and educational activities.”

Run in conjunction with the Federation of Engine Remanufacturers, the engine course covers a range of topics from cylinder head servicing to lower block reconditioning. Technicians gain hands on experience, with tuition provided by Federal-Mogul.

Brake training provision for the company’s 450 strong Ferodo specialists is offered via two courses: an introduction to brake technology and ABS training. The introduction consists of a seminar-based programme covering the theoretical aspects of friction material and technologies such as ABS, EBD and ASC.

The ignition course provides technicians with the knowledge and skills to diagnose, maintain and repair everything from basic to advanced ignition systems.
