Aftersales professionals in the retail motor industry have a unique opportunity to get an injection of fresh thinking, plus some 'quick wins' they can take away to start increasing profits immediately – at autoretailing 06.

The convention includes a special programme of aftersales management workshops designed to equip the industry's executives with the tools and techniques they need to develop their careers and their businesses. There is no other event like it in the marketplace.

autoretailing 06 takes place on June 7 and 8 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. Brought to the industry by AM magazine and the Retail Motor Industry Federation, it is dedicated to helping pro-active motor retailers become even more successful.

Each 50-minute aftersales workshop is designed to give motor dealers the practical tools they need to make their dealerships and groups more successful. Expert workshop presenters will share best practice and offer clear, impartial guidelines for dealing with some of the major challenges that AM readers tell us they face every day.

The programme, on June 8, includes:

  • Standards, satisfaction and profit in aftersales – John Whiteman & John Kiff, directors, International Car Distribution Programme
The ICDP will host an interactive discussion of manufacturers' different approaches to setting standards in aftersales; the role, cost and complexity of standards; the challenges and barriers of multi-franchising in aftersales; plus the relevance of standards and how these can be improved.

  • Improving service and parts profitability – Nic Garwood, aftersales programmes manager, TTL Consulting
Garwood's workshop looks at how initiatives such as pre-diagnosis appointments, pre-visit Right First Time meetings and pre-targeted quality control can improve service profitability; also how to improve communication with the parts department, joint marketing initiatives and other profit-enhancing techniques.

  • Selling service to the owners of older used cars – Andrew Waterworth, sales director, BTC
Waterworth will examine the root cause of the problems that hold back many franchised dealers; implementing simple sales controls and disciplines; turning service advisors into sales advisors; and using service plans to boost your profitability.

  • A service plan that actually works – Peter Smyth, director, Swansway Garages
Service plans are the new profit centre. Swansway Garages have been tremendously successful selling service and maintenance plans to their customer base for many years. Smyth will reveal the secrets of that success and show fellow dealers how to achieve the same – or better – results.

  • Managing your parts manager – David Lansdowne, director, Aftermarket Solutions
Lansdowne's workshop will enable you to more accurately measure performance, and understand how to support parts management in your dealership or group. It will help you to decide what role parts should play in the dealership and how best to achieve success.

Other workshops covering key areas of sales and general dealership management will run throughout the day as well. Delegates can choose which workshops they want to attend, across all three disciplines, and in effect build their own management training programme for the day.

autoretailing 06 is a unique opportunity to get an injection of fresh strategic thinking, plus some 'quick wins' you can take away and apply in your own business to start selling more cars, retaining more customers and increasing profitability immediately.

Speakers at the conference that opens the convention on June 7 include Vauxhall chairman Jonathan Browning; Lyell Strambi, the boss of Virgin Atlantic Airways, giving a perspective from outside the industry; and the Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP. David Martin, one of the USA's top car sales training gurus and an inspirational presenter, will be speaking as well. The conference is chaired by Declan Curry, business presenter for 'Breakfast' on BBC One and BBC News 24.

Two-day tickets to autoretailing 06 are transferable between colleagues in the same organisation. For full details, see the website at www.autoretailing.co.uk.
