How did you get into the automotive business?
I started as a trainee accountant, but always had a love of cars and selling.

What does your job entail?
Responsibility for Black Horse Motor, Caravan, Motorcycle and Fleet Finance, plus Black Horse Motor Warranty. I’m also on the boards of JV companies with Mitsubishi, Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia, Proton and Lotus.

How will your job change over the next few years?
Continual advancements in technology will change the style of our delivery channels and enable much faster delivery of our services. We need to continue with protection of dealer income and POS.

Who else have you worked for?
An accountancy partnership for three years.

What advice would you give to young people planning to join the industry?
Work hard, continually develop yourself, move around and build a sense of humour.

What’s the worst career move you’ve ever made?
My one move suited my strengths and I am delighted with my career progress.

And the best?
After 10 months as branch manager in a company’s worst performing area, I was promoted.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
Handing over a successful business to a younger dynamic member of my team.
