BMW says it has reached a deal to sell the rights to the Rover brand, but will not reveal to who.

The two potential buyers are most likely to be rivals Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation and Nanjing Automobile, which bought MG Rover out of administration last year together with sports brand MG.

BMW licensed the Rover brand to British investors in 2001 as part of a deal to dispose of MG Rover.
