Name: Paul Barkshire
Company: Lings Honda
Job: Operations director
Age: 44

How did you get in to the automotive business?
I started out doing an apprenticeship at Lings. I’ve always loved anything motorized so it was the obvious choice.

What does your job entail?
I’m in charge of developing the whole group’s business and overseeing its future growth. I have to make sure our core values are upheld.

How will your job change over the next few years?
If we grow, my job will just be a bigger version of what it is now.

Other jobs?
I started as an apprentice at Lings and then moved to Pointer Motor Company. Then I worked as a technician in the operating theatre of the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. After that, I went back to Lings and worked as a branch manager and general manager before becoming operations director.

What advice would you give to people planning to join the industry?
Believe in yourself and work hard.

What’s the worst career move you’ve ever made?
None. Everything I’ve done has been a real eye opener for life.

And the best?
Working for Lings. As well as working hard, I get to play with all of Honda’s toys!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
On a yacht, chilling out.
