Instant insurance checks at crash scene

A road accident assistance service is offering its members an instant insurance check available from the crash site on the other drivers involved in the collision.

Crashguard,, which provides roadside assistance and legal support for members involved in accidents, provides the service for any member who calls in either from the crash site or after the accident has taken place.

Crashguard then undertakes an insurance check online with the Motor Insurers' Database and the results, confirming the type and make of the other car and their insurance details are relayed back to the member by phone or text. If the driver is uninsured, or the vehicle details don't tally with the car or driver involved in the accident, Crashguard will offer to discreetly call the police on the member's behalf.

Drivers involved in collisions with uninsured motorists are able to recover damages, subject to a deduction of £300, from the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), an insurance industry body set up to compensate innocent victims but incorrect details, incomplete information can result in lengthy delays in payouts and some claims not being settled at all.
