The new child seat safety laws have come into effect today.

It is now compulsory for all children under the age of 12 and less than 4ft 5inches tall to use a car seat.

“With the introduction of new regulations relating to child car seats, it is vital that consumers should visit reputable car dealers and garages for advice and information on the correct fitting and suitability of seats in all vehicle makes and models,” said Matthew Carrington, chief executive of the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF).

“Our members will be ensuring that parents receive expert guidance on correct seat fitting in a variety of makes and models. With over 2,000 child deaths or injuries each year, an expertly fitted seat will help reassure the public that more is being done to maximize children’s safety.,” said Carrington.
