Mazda has revealed specification and technical details for its new Mazda6 saloon which goes on sale in UK in January.

The Japanese manufacturer has added a new MZR 2.5-litre petrol engine to the line-up which replaces the 2.3-litre petrol engine in the outgoing model.

Three engines carry over from the previous range, including the MZR-CD 2.0-litre common-rail turbo diesel with diesel particulate filter (DPF), 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines. All of which have been modified to improve fuel efficiency.

The Mazda6 has a new power assist steering system, front passenger, side and curtain airbags ABS, EBD, DSC, TCS and a new adaptive front lighting system included as standard.

It’s 65mm longer, 15mm wider and 5mm taller than the previous Mazda6. It’s built on the same platform as Ford’s much bigger Mondeo, which is possible to make out from the pictures below.

Prices will be announced closer to launch.
