Gateshead-based Hodgson Toyota has started a new tuition initiative at Whickham High School to teach students about human resources.

The lessons will cover what a HR Manager’s role entails including how to recruit, interview and train staff. The scheme is designed to teach the next generation about what skills and competences a potential employer might look for, which in turn will help the students when applying for real life positions.

The programme, which is being run by Hodgson’s HR Manager, Jacquie Mason, will include elements such as how a business advertises for jobs, collates applications, analyses CVs and selects candidates.

Mason said: “We have developed a fantastic relationship with Whickham High School over the last few years and this latest scheme provides a great opportunity for students to gain a genuine understanding of the HR function in a real business environment.

“We expect the students will learn a great deal from this training project and the experience will massively help when going through the recruitment process at the start of their careers.”

Following a full HR overview session, the 16-18 year old students will be given a tour of the Hodgson Toyota Gateshead site to illustrate the workings of a successful business.

Hodgson is currently on a major recruitment drive to strengthen the existing team and fill its apprenticeship opportunities.
