Gary Arthur, a technician at Specialist Cars Volkswagen in Aberdeen, has won the manufacturer’s UK final for its service qualification world championships.

Arthur will now be competing in the World Championships in Wolfsburg, home to Volkswagen’s international headquarters in Germany, early next month.

VW said its service championships are intended to raise the standards in aftersales throughout its retail network and reward top-performing employees for their success.

More than 250 UK Volkswagen retailers were invited to participate in the event. Over three rounds, service advisors and master technicians competed to gain the chance to represent the UK in the world championships. Arthur took the title in the master technician category.

Arthur began working at Specialist Cars Volkswagen as an apprentice 18 years ago and entered the UK championships after being encouraged by his work colleagues and manager.

Specialist Cars is part of the John Clark Motor Group, one of Scotland’s top five motor trade groups. Specialist Cars operates Volkswagen dealerships in Aberdeen and Kirkcaldy and also has Seat and Skoda dealerships in Aberdeen.
