Health and Safety visits to garages may be on the up

A report recently published gives details of a pilot scheme which involved handing over enforcement responsibilities in Peterborough for garages from the Health and Safety Executive to the Environmental Health Department who have traditionally had responsibility for enforcement at shops and other retail premises.

One of the recommendations from the report is that the possibility of extending the pilot scheme to other areas in the UK should be considered.

It was also recommended that future schemes should include mobile repairers so that garage and workshop owners felt they were operating on a level playing field.

We would be pleased to hear from any clients who find more involvement from the local authority in this area.
