First age discrimination case on grounds of being too young

A 20-year-old membership secretary of a private members club, Megan Thomas, has won an unfair dismissal claim and a ruling of age discrimination when she was allegedly dismissed for being too young to deal with the members of the Eight Members Club in Central London.

Ms Thomas said she was told she was too young and if they had met her a few years later there may not have been a problem.

The club has said it will appeal the decision on grounds it employs several young people.

They claimed Ms Thomas had made ‘mistakes’ and were planning to terminate her employment.
