Volkswagen has revealed the first details of the Passat BlueMotion ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6.

According to the German marque, the Passat BlueMotion will return 55.4 mpg and produces 136g/km of carbon dioxide.

The estate version returns 54.3 mpg and produces 137 g/km of CO2.

VW said it achieves the low consumption figures through the fine tuning of its 105bhp TDI engine, which has a diesel particulate filter.
