Name: Simon Lane
Company: Qualitas People Solutions Ltd
Job: Recruitment consultant
Age: 28

How did you get in to the automotive business?
I started as a trainee sales executive at City Motors Vauxhall in Oxford 10 years ago.

What does your job entail?
Work on behalf of my clients to source, qualify and match candidates to positions in the Scottish motor trade from sales executive to dealer principal.

How will your job change over the next few years?
The industry in Scotland is too large to rely on ‘word of mouth’ recruitment. Our candidate hub finds our clients the right people without them having to advertise and sift through CVs.

Other jobs?
Sales exec for a year at Fish Brothers Toyota then seven years with Lexus. Became sales manager at Lexus Edinburgh.

What advice would you give to young people joining the industry?
Stay in your first job for at least a year and keep your nose clean.

Worst career move?
A spell selling performance cars – test drives could be terrifying.

And the best?
Working with Lexus at a time when the franchise took off.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
Flying my own aeroplane.
