Did you know that government consultation on banning smoking in enclosed public place and workplaces proposes that it will be illegal by July 1, 2007? The provisions for licensed premises extends to the end of 2008.

Workplaces, areas, which are enclosed, will need to be smoke free if they are used by more than one person or members of the public attend.

There are powers in the proposed legislation to extend the ban to vehicles.

There will be a requirement to display A5 size no smoking signs.

The maximum fine for failure to display the sign will be £1,000. For smoking in a smoke free place the maximum fine will be £200 and for failing to prevent smoking in a smoke free place £2,500.
