Peugeot will launch a high powered GTI version of the 207 in June, powered by a turbo-charged 175bhp petrol engine.

As well as featuring hot hatch characteristics such as a 0-62mph time of 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 137mph it will come with the new SSP safety system.

The system applies more braking power to the wheels with good grip and, anticipating any vehicle instability, applies torque to the steering to help the driver achieve optimal directional control. Unlike an ABS system which limits braking of the wheels with good grip to give priority to vehicle control, this system reduces braking distances by between 4% and 10% while still guaranteeing vehicle stability in a straight line.

Other features include Bridgestone Potenza tyres mounted on new 17-inch nine-spoke ‘Pitlane’ alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, a trapezoid twin chrome exhaust, ‘satin black’ finish of the door B-post trims and satin chrome door mirror covers.

The Peugeot 207 GTi THP 175 will go on sale in the UK in June 2007 priced at only £14,995 on-the-road.
