Under the trading name, Datacom, David Jones operated a telesales business to cold call businesses to get orders for printer cartridges.

Once the first order was hooked the businesses were then sent further stocks of printer cartridges and paper, which had not been ordered and the demands for payment showed inflated prices.

There was also a misdescription of the life of the cartridges. It was believed the earnings from the business amounted to £6 million and as well as a 3-month prison sentence there was an order to confiscate £3 million in assets.
