BSI's Kitemark for Garage Services scheme, aimed at raising standards in vehicle service and repair, has surpassed the 100 licensees milestone, three years from its launch to the repair sector.

At present, the number of licensees stands at 101, with a further 45 garage businesses going through the latter stages of the auditing process to achieve the Kitemark. BSI wants to double the amount of garages to approximately 300 garages before the end of this year.

Ian Harper, BSI sales and marketing director, said that although the number of licensees was relatively small, the company would be gearing up to launch the Kitemark scheme to consumers in January.

Harper said: “While we are delighted that we have achieved more than 100 licensees, we concede that, in the grand scheme of things, it is a relatively small amount.

“The scheme is moving forward and by January 2008 we will have amassed a significant number of licensees, which will be supported through our consumer campaign, designed to encourage motorists to request a Kitemark garage.”
