The former head of Smart UK has joined the board of Scottish dealer group Peter Vardy.

As commercial director, Jeremy Simpson will be responsible for driving business growth, working with manufacturer partners and overseeing all commercial operations, including marketing, internet and the business contact centre.

He has experience at both dealer and manufacturer levels, having started his career as a sales executive with Minories in Newcastle. In the mid-1990s he worked with Appleyard Mercedes-Benz in Peterborough, where Peter Vardy managing director Jamie Crowther was a neighbouring dealer.

Later he joined Mercedes-Benz UK as regional general manager, moving to roles including general manager of used cars for the Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler Jeep and Smart brands, sales director of Chrysler and Jeep UK and head of Smart UK in 2002.

Earlier last year he returned to retail and headed six Mercedes-Benz operations for Pendragon.

Chief executive Peter Vardy said: “Our business has had an amazing start. We have grown quickly and it’s important now that we consolidate and make sure the businesses we have are operating to their full potential. The creation of the commercial director post is a crucial one as we move forward.”
