Land Rover has stumped up an initial £50 million to help develop green technologies.

The manufactuer has teamed up with regional development agency Advantage West Midlands to provide funding for research into low carbon vehicles, energy efficiency and reducing emissions.

AWM put £30 million into the project which is expected to grow over the coming months as other automotive businesses from across the UK join in, reports the Birmingham Post.

A new low carbon vehicle development and proving centre is also due to be created, although the site has not yet been confirmed.
