Land Rover has launched a new model which engine stops when its is stationary to reduce its emissions output.

The TD4_e Stop/Start was launched this month in London and automaticaly cuts out when it comes to a standstill but starts again once the clutch is pressed.

Land Rover claims this reduces the vehicle's CO2 output by eight per cent from 194g/km to 179g/km and improves fuel economy by 12 per cent on the EU combined cycle of urban and motorway driving.

The carmaker is offering the system on all Freelander 2 TD4 manual models from spring next year with no increase in list price over the standard version.
