Ford has successfully registered the word "Fun" as a European Trademark for its cars.
The carmaker brought a case to the European Court of First Instance to overturn a refusal by Europe's trade mark registration body, OHIM, to register the word, as applied to motor vehicles.
OHIM had said the word was purely descriptive of what a car is, and descriptive signs couldn't be registered as trademarks.
But Ford successfully argued that anyone seeing a car with the word "Fun" on it would assume that it indicates the manufacturer, the type or a special edition.
