Newcastle-based CircleRed, the property development consultants behind the Silverlink Vroom Retail Park, is due to roll out the concept at other locations in the UK.

The announcement follows news that the first Vroom now has seven dealers operating from the purpose-built £10m site.

Duncan McGregor, Circle-Red managing director, said: “We’ve conducted a national search for potential sites and we’ve sent proposals out to possible development areas in Edinburgh and Sheffield.

“We’re looking to get another site acquired before the end of this year and start building in early 2009, ready for opening before the end of that year.”

Any new Vroom Retail Parks will operate under the same £10m blueprint.

However, McGregor said they would have to get at least four dealer partners on board with the project before they could move forward.

“In the current financial climate, banks are less willing to lend money so we would have to secure dealers before we can start on the next site,” he added.

McGregor believes the Vroom format suits dealers looking for a site with relatively low overheads and the capacity to stock a high volume of cars.

The Vroom concept was first unveiled in 2006 and launched without a full line-up of dealers on board.

McDougal & Breen, Gosforth Park Motor Company, Northern 4x4 Centre, Silverlink Specialist Cars, Hummer Newcastle, Henson Motor Group and David James are all operating out of the Vroom Retail Park at Silverlink.

The park consists of up to 10 showrooms with forecourts, while the ‘service lane’ hosts the PDI units in addition to an MoT and service station and a 4x4 accessory shop. It has space for two more dealers.

Subway runs a restaurant on site and a new customer information centre provides somewhere for customers to consider deals on offer.

A total of 750 cars are on offer with the emphasis on low-key, ‘hassle-free’ sales.

McGregor said: “There were some in the industry who said it couldn’t work, that multiple dealers could not exist side by side.

“We have proved that the opposite is true. The critical mass achieved by seven dealers boosts footfall for all.

“The blue chip environment we have created, surpassing that on offer from many main dealers, would be beyond the reach of individual traders.”
