The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has released information on how MoT stations are evaluated.

The announcement has been welcomed by Stephen Coles, head of MoT operations for the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF).

He believes that now MoT stations have access to how they will be evaluated, they will be able to achieve better results in their risk assessments by VOSA.

Coles said: "The RMIF applauds the fact that this information is in the public domain.

"Just imagine how much more VOSA would have helped to improve the MoT quality if it had been made available to test stations prior to the assessment process."

Although VOSA published a best practice guide with general principles, they had not previously released details of how they calculated the risk score. This information has now been added to the Transport Office website and includes a copy of the check list used and a risk scoring reference guide.
