Volkswagen will appoint Thomas Ulbrich as head of its production division for VW commercial vehicles on September 1.

Ulbrich will take over from Dirk Grosse-Loheide, who remains on the VW board as member for procurement and logistics.

Ulbrich studied vehicle engineering and became head of logistics at FAW-VW in China in 1996.

Two years later he assumed responsibility for assembly lines at VW’s Wolfsburg plant before becoming head of plant logistics at Emden in 1999. He was named technical managing director of VW production subsidiary, Auto 5000 in Wolfsburg in 2001, and was appointed speaker of the management board of Auto 5000 in January 2007. A decision on Ulbrich’s successor at Auto 5000 will be made soon.
