John Madejski, the man who built the Auto Trader brand into a £175 million business and who now owns Reading FC, is to speak at this year’s AM Financial Management conference.

Sponsored by Grant Thornton Automotive Services and chaired by business analyst and TV broadcaster James Bellini, it is the only event tailored to motor retail finance directors, dealership accountants and other senior managers with an interest in financial management.

The emphasis is on improving performance, with best practice guidelines and practical ideas for delegates to adapt to their own operations.

Subjects will include UK economy forecast and outlook for UK motor retailers, cashflow management, used car stocking and aftersales KPIs.

Madejski will reveal what drives him to keep looking at new business opportunities and how, in most cases, he manages to turn them into gold.

With him will be David Owen-Smith, managing director of online car sales marketplace Lotsof.net, which Madejski bought into in April 2007.

“We’re aiming to transform the fleet and corporate car market,” said Owen-Smith.

The Financial Management conference takes place on November 18 at Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium.
