Changes to dealer costs and new vehicle stocking are aimed at supporting Mitsubishi dealers through 2009.

Mitsubishi UK is making owning the franchise 'cost-free' as long as basic criteria are met.

It said this will equate to a real saving of £50,000 for an average Mitsubishi retailer selling 300 units annually.

Other support measures include reduced demonstrator requirements, 180 days free stocking on new vehicles, and the introduction of lower-emissions models, including a ClearTec range and electric i-MiEV.

Jim Tyrell, Mitsubishi UK chief executive, said the company wants to ensure dealers make a profit with positive cashflow in 2009.

"To do this, we know we have to achieve a reasonable sales volume, whilst remaining entirely reasonable about our expectations," he added.
