A used car dealer in Wales has been fined £4,000 for two offences of selling cars that were unroadworthy.

The business, Mr Autos, in Cwmbach, sold an MGF and Mercedes-Benz Vito in 2008 with MoT certificates, but independent MoT checks by a consultant engineer failed both cars.

Problems included longstanding corrosion. However Tahir Kareem, a director of Mr Auto, maintained that the cars were roadworthy when sold and the corrosion had developed since their sale.

Mr Auto denied two offences under the General Product Safety Regulations but was found guilty by Aberdare Magistrates Court, and fined £2,000 per offence, plus £1,000 costs and £750 compensation to the customer.
