The owner of Godstone Cars has been jailed for selling cars with bogus warranties and falsified mileages.

Mark Phillimore, who traded in Godstone, Surrey, was sentenced by Guilford Crown Court this week to serve nine months in prison.

Following action by Trading Standards, Phillimore had signed a legal agreement in 2007 under the Enterprise Act to run his business properly and not breach the Trade Descriptions Act.

However Judge Stuart Sleeman said Phillimore had continued to sell cars which he "must have known had serious faults", and no fine would stop him from continuing to break the law.

The used car dealer now has until Monday to lodge an appeal.
