Lutz to leave GM

Bob Lutz will retire from General Motors at the end of the year.

The carmaker announced yesterday that Lutz will step down as vice chairman for product development this spring.

He will remain with the company as an advisor until retiring at the year-end.

He will be succeeded by Thomas Stephens, currently an executive vice president.

News of Lutz's exit plan comes a week after GM director Percy Barnevik quit for personal reasons.
