NADA - an inspiration for UK dealers in a downturn

The North American Dealer Association's Annette Sykora gave a rousing - and inspirational - speech as she bade farewell to her chairmanship in New Orleans recently.

The speech and accompanying video demonstrated NADA's achievements in 2008, most strikingly in the impact they had on winning government support - through their congressmen - for efforts to ensure dealers' futures in an economy reeling from the global economic downturn.

NADA's experience shows that individual dealers' efforts to enlist the support of local media and MPs can make a difference to your business.

US dealers were emphatic about the role their businesses play in their communities - and in generating tax revenue.

Their efforts are working: a loan guarantee programme has been launched for dealers, while mechanisms are now in place to increase liquidity in the credit markets.

NADA has been successful because it has the support of dealers who have strength in their local community; who will act when called upon; and who know which levers to pull with their local Congressmen.
