Components manufacturer Visteon UK has gone into administration.

Administrator KPMG has announced that 565 of the 600 employees at its three UK manufacturing sites - Basildon, Belfast and Enfield - have been made redundant.

The remaining 35 employees are being kept on to help wind down the business, which made car interiors, climate and powertrain components.

Visteon's global parent in the US said its other UK operations were not in administration, including Visteon Engineering Services.

Chairman and chief executive Donald Stebbins said: "Despite extensive restructuring efforts, the UK plants have continued to incur substantial losses.

"Regrettably, having exhausted all options, the Visteon UK Ltd board of directors had no alternative but to file for administration."
