Volkswagen Golf GTD, its new performance diesel, will cost from £21,850 when it goes on sale on June 22.

Available to order now, the starting price is for the three-door, six speed manual model.

There is a £585 premium for the five-door model and a £1,305 for the six-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Golf GTD does 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 138mph.

CO2 emissions are 139g/km with official fuel consumption at 53.3mpg.

Volkswagen said a flat-bottomed steering wheel, leather gearshift and a grey, white and black tartan interior were unique to the GTD.
