The UK’s bodyshop sector has seen the collapse of a second major accident repair business this year.

The 15th largest repairer, A Wilcox Motor Bodies, has gone into liquidation less than two months after the collapse of the fifth largest independent bodyshop group, Autodex.

Administrators from Poppleton and Appleby closed the Walsall-based bodyshop on May 15. It had an annual turnover of more than £4 million and had employed around 60 people until recent cuts.

Owner Adrian Wilcox said the end was down to a combination of reduced work volumes, insurance company cost-cutting and lengthy roadworks on the Walsall ring road which had impacted on access.

The bodyshop had held contracts with Zurich Insurance and Allianz until these were ended several months ago.
