A decision to transfer Jaguar Land Rover apprentices and their lecturers from City College Coventry to Warwickshire College has caused unrest among union members.

Officials at the University and College Union claim there is uncertainty about why the contract has gone to Warwickshire College instead of City College Coventry, and where students and staff will be based, reports the Coventry Telegraph.

UCU official for the West Midlands Nick Varney said it had been given "no clear reason" why the transfer had taken place.

Varney said past results had been magnificent while many staff believed  the move stemmed from a breakdown of relationships between the college management teams rather than for academic reasons.

However Warwickshire College principal Peter Husband said there was no confusion as the decision was made from a tendering process with Jaguar Land Rover happy with the outcome.
