Peugeot will launch its new electric vehichle i0n by the end of 2010.

The vehicle, which has a range of 80 miles and has been developed with Mitsubishi Motor Company, is aimed at both retail and fleet customers.

It is powered by lithium-ion batteries and “will be the ideal solution for ever-increasing challenges of urban mobility versus environmental protection” said Peugeot.

The car has four doors and four seats, a length of 3.48m and a turning circle of 4.50m.

It develops a maximum power output of 64bhp and a torque of 180Nm and reaches a maximum speed of 80mph.

The batteries can be recharged in six hours using mains power supply or recharged to 80% capacity within thirty minutes.

I0n also has a localised communication unit which authorises emergency calls and also authorises data transfer (battery status, distance covered, distant to travel before maintenance due) which is especially helpful for fleet operators, said the French manufacturer.
