BMW is to recall around 26,000 of its cars in the UK as well as about 1,200 Rolls-Royces due to a braking problem.

The recall involves 2002 to 2010 model year BMW 5, 6 and 7 Series vehicles powered by V8 and V12 engines and Rolls-Royce Phantom cars from the 2003 to 2010 model years.

The problem involves potential leaks in the power braking system, leading to vacuum loss and a reduction in power braking assistance.

Mechanical braking is still available to slow and stop the vehicle, BMW said.

A spokesman said: "We are writing to all the owners involved asking them to arrange a service appointment.

"There have not been any accidents or injuries."

The problem has prompted BMW of North America to recall nearly 200,000 of the vehicles.
