Many UK households are still struggling financially, according to a poll for the Bank of England.

The BBC reports that the poll of 2,000 people shows more than half struggled to meet payments for credit card or other unsecured debts.

Almost a quarter said they were put off spending because of concern that it was becoming harder to borrow.

Most expect to be heavily affected by government austerity measures, but fewer than half had take steps to prepare for this, such as making savings or looking for a new job.
