Toyota is offering retail customers a choice of warranty cover extended from three to five years or a free three-year service plan to help boost consumer confidence following its recall problems.

Customers have to get their cars serviced at a franchised dealer, so the scheme will help keeps customers within the network.

All new Toyota cars are covered under the new scheme and it will be marketed under the slogan: “Your choice, our promise”.

Miguel Fonseca, Toyota managing director, said: “This great new programme not only represents superb value for our customers, it also gives them complete peace of mind around their choice of vehicle.

“It also underpins the principle of trouble free motoring characteristic of Toyota’s products. And with the choice of a longer warranty or free servicing for their new car, they can make a choice based on their personal priorities.”

Toyota has completed over 45,000 recalls of the 90,000 vehicles which have had to be repaired in the UK.

And of the recalled Prius models, over 58% have now received adjustment to their braking software programme.

Toyota said more than 200 Toyota service centres around the country were pulling out all the stops to ensure the recalls are carried out as quickly as possible with the least inconvenience to customers, with hundreds of technicians and other staff putting in extra hours and cancelling leave.
