Peter Vardy, chief executive of the family-owned dealer group by the same name, has been named as Scotland’s best young businessman at this year’s Scottish Business Achievement Awards Trusts (SBAAT), winning the Young Achiever award for 2010.
Vardy was presented the award by Princess Anne at a ceremony in Edinburgh among a host of other leading names in the Scottish business community including AGGREKO chief executive, Rupert Soames, who won the main SBAAT award and Malcolm Howat, executive chairman of Howco Group, who took honours in the international category.
Vardy (31) heads up his dealer group which currently operates six dealerships across Scotland. Last year Peter Vardy turnover went up from £107 million in 2008 to £139m with profits of £3.53m.
Along with Perth, Peter Vardy now operates dealerships in Edinburgh, Motherwell and Kirkcaldy. The company distributes 10% of its annual profits to local and international charities through the Peter Vardy Foundation.
Vardy said: "Being recognised with this award among some great names within the Scottish business community is a very humbling experience. I really must give credit to my many colleagues who are working so hard to make Peter Vardy a successful company."
