Transport minister Mike Penning has confirmed there will be a total review of all vehicle testing later this year.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation has met with Penning and will be involved in the discussions regarding the review.

Penning said the Government is concerned the industry is testing low mileage, well maintained cars too often, while at the same time missing out on cars and light commercial vehicles that have high annual mileages.

The current MoT test scheme is nearly 50 years old and has changed little since its introduction, except where demanded by vehicle innovations.
