Maruti Suzuki expects to close a deal with Fiat for the supply of diesel engines for its Swift supermini within two months, according to media reports in India.

This will aid in increasing production of the new Swift.

Maruti Suzuki India said that talks were on for sourcing diesel engines from Fiat which will be developed at their Ranjangaon Unit near about 40 kms from Pune.

Maruti Suzuki, which normally sources these engines from Suzuki Powertrain India Limited at Manesar, said that they have reached their peak capacity of 20,000 engines per month and hence it was necessary to source out another supplier.

It said that once the deal is finalized and engines start rolling in, Swift production could increase by about 20000 units more per month from January 2012.
