A complaint against a midlands Kia dealer has been upheld by the advertising watchdog.

Allen Kia in Coventry ran an ad offering a Rio 1.4 5dr at £7,840, stating it was a £700 saving.

A consumer complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that the ad didn't make it clear the price was conditional on a Kia hire purchase deal, and that they believed the interest accrued would negate the £700 discount.

The ASA's judgement says Allen Kia said it did not offer a hire purchase agreement, the price of the Kia Rio was £7,840 and included a customer discount of £700, and there was an additional saving of £500 if customers entered into the Kia Financial Services agreement but that this was entirely optional.

The ASA continued: "Because we had not received any information about the conditions of the Kia Financial Services agreement, or evidence that demonstrated that the Kia Rio 1.4 5dr could be purchased at the advertised price, we concluded that the ad was misleading."
