Dealers are being offered a new car care upsell opportunity exploiting space technology.

A new product called G-3 Glasscoat has been launched to the market offering an alternative to the paraffin based paint protection products dominating the valeting market.

G-3 Glasscoat is a ceramic hardened glass finish that, using NASA-developed technology, links and bonds to a car’s clearcoat lacquer making it four times thicker than existing paraffin wax based products and being solvent resistant, is up to 10 times more durable, the company says. It comes with a five-year guarantee.

It is now sold in the UK as the exclusive paint protection product by Renault and Suzuki and also by Hyundai and Mitsubishi as an OEM branded product. Renault is also launching the brand in seven European countries this year.

Rob Collins, a former Supagard director and now G-3 Glasscoat marketing director, said: “The market is saturated with paraffin wax based products and the consumer is getting the same offer from different directions.

“We seized the opportunity to offer a product that had been developed by NASA to protect space shuttle components that brought with it technological superiority and an enhanced offering for manufacturers and dealers selling the product."
