A Northamptonshire car dealer has hit out at a property developer who wants to demolish his showroom to make way for a hotel.

Mark Beddows of Beddows Motor Company in Kettering said developer Tykes Development has mishandled the situation, leaving many of his customers unsure if the business was still trading.

Tykes Development has submitted plans for a 55-bed hotel, approved by the local authority, which would include redevelopment of Beddows’ site.

But Beddows, who runs the used car business with his brother and sister, has vowed to stay put despite the proposal and an offer of £325,000 for the site.

“It angers me that this speculative developer who has had no input into the town can just come along and stage some plans which include demolishing my business, which has been here since 1971,” he told the Northants Evening Telegraph.
